Annual Conference 2017: Region 2 Business Meeting

Another NACADA Annual conference has come and gone! We hope those of you who attended are feeling re-energized and full of ideas to implement on your campuses. We really enjoyed the opportunity to network and spend time together as a region!

For those of you who couldn’t attend, we want to make sure you have all pertinent updates from the Region 2 Business Meeting. These updates were provided by Region 2 Chair Karen Lewis and members of the Region 2 steering committee.

Finances and Goals
The region is in solid financial shape, especially after the high attendance at the regional conference in Pittsburgh. Our financial stability allows the region to provide awards, host drive-ins, and pilot new programming around the region such as our drive-out conferences and research grants. These programs align with the 2017 Region 2 goals, which are the following:
  • To increase membership participation in events outside of the conferences and drive-ins held in more heavily populated areas of the region.
  • To support new scholars in developing research in the field.

Dover Conference!
We are thrilled to invite you all to the 2018 Region 2 Conference in Dover, DE: "Big Ideas Start Small"! We’ll be gathering at Dover Downs, March 21-23, 2018. Special thanks to conference chairs Nina Buchanan of Wilmington University and Sherri Niblett of Delaware Technical Community College. For a preview, see the video below. We hope to see you there!

Regional Awards
The deadline for most award submissions is Wednesday, November 1. For more information about award categories and the nomination process, visit the Region 2 Awards page. To hear a conversation about submitting awards from our past and present awards chairs, see the video on our blog.

Upcoming Elections
Chair Karen Lewis will soon be sending a call for nominations for our next round of elections. For 2018-2020, we will be electing a mentoring and membership coordinator and a site selection coordinator. Both of these positions are wonderful ways to serve the region and get involved in NACADA leadership. Keep an eye out in your email if you're interested.

Communications and Social Media
Since you’re reading this blog post, you’re looped in to at least one of our communication channels! Please be sure to follow @NACADAr2 on both Twitter and Instagram. You’ll notice that we’ve aligned our branding with the new NACADA logo. We’ve also added a tabbed section (above) for past video sessions. The research and awards videos are particularly helpful.

Membership and Mentoring
Our goal for the 2018 Region 2 conference is for every member who requests a mentor to be matched. Please consider serving as a mentor to a new professional in our field. More info to come on signing up via email and on our blog closer to the March conference.

State Meetings
We broke into state groups to discuss upcoming social and networking events, drive-ins, and other state initiatives. If you have ideas or want to meet your state liaison, you can find their info in our leadership directory.

Getting Involved
There are many ways to get involved at the regional and national level with NACADA. Here's just a few examples:
  • Apply for openings on the Region 2 steering committee
  • Host a Drive-In at your institution
  • Join a conference committee or volunteer at a conference
  • Join a Commission or Interest Group
  • Volunteer to read conference proposals or Global Awards applications
  • Apply for the Emerging Leaders Program
  • Write for the NACADA Journal
Thanks for tuning in for this update. We'll see you soon on Facebook, on social media, at our upcoming drive-ins, and at the Region 2 Conference!
