A Note from 2016 Region 2 Conference Co-Chair, Stephanie Rasgus!

For as long as I can remember, I have loved to be one of the people who makes things happen; I joke that in college I double-majored in Psychology and Being Involved, and the trend has continued well beyond my college years. After my first NACADA conference, I knew I wanted to do more with the organization, and the NACADA structure really caters to those of us who like to be involved. Since then I have been fortunate to serve as an on-site conference volunteer, presenter, conference registration chair, and now as a conference co-chair. Professionally and personally, this is an organization near and dear to my heart, and it is an honor and a pleasure to be a part of the NACADA Region 2 conference planning team.
When I’m not wearing my co-chair hat, I’m serving as an Assistant Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services within The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. My background in higher education is rather varied, but advising is where my passion lies. In my current role I work with both undergraduate and graduate adult learners in online programs from the prospective student stage through to graduation, which has been an enlightening experience following my time as an advisor for traditional-aged undeclared students. The relationships I have made through NACADA have led me to so many resources which enable to me to grow as a professional, enhance my advising practice, and provide the best experience possible for my students.
Jon, Johnika, and I like to call ourselves Team DMV (DC-Maryland-Virginia), and I’m proud to represent the DC piece of the puzzle. While we work in different states, different types of institutions, and do very different work on a daily basis, we are able to Capitol-ize on these differences to plan a conference experience with something for everyone. We are lucky to have an amazingly dedicated group of people from throughout the DMV who are lending their talents to this effort.
As I write, we are getting ready to hunker down while the first major snowstorm of 2016 prepares to blanket Region 2. I will be spending the next several days hibernating in Alexandria, VA with my husband and our snow-averse Yorkie, Beckett, hoping that we do not get hit with Snowmageddon 2.0*. I look forward to welcoming you to the DC metro region, and hope that when March comes around it's all cherry blossoms and sunshine instead of snowflakes and blizzard-like conditions.
