When I started down this journey of planning the NACADA conference with my co-chairs almost a year ago, I had no idea what I was in for, although I had some idea it would be a lot of work. It certainly has been that. For myself, I add another unique layer to all of this by not only trying to balance this work with my job in Fairfax VA, but I also have worked hard to balance this enormous responsibility with my second position at the George Mason University campus in Korea as well as being part of a family that is split between the United States and South Africa.
Despite all of that, being co-chair of this conference has been some of the most enjoyable and fulfilling work I have ever done. Working behind the scenes on a conference of this magnitude you get to see a lot of brilliant people doing extraordinary things. It takes a good size team comprised of professionals from all across our region to make this event a success. As co-chair it has been rewarding to see the talents of individuals shine strong and clear. Also, while working on a conference from this position, I have really been able to learn, at a very intimate level, about all the cutting edge initiatives that are being developed in every corner of Region 2. Being able to see and read about those initiatives has been fuel to energize me in my own job.
The other co-chairs and I, as well as the rest our team, have worked tirelessly to put together a conference that highlights all that is great about our region. We hope that as you attend this conference you will see many initiatives that could find a place within your own institution or be the spark that might generate the next great idea for you to share at the 2017 conference. Whatever may unfold in the coming days, I hope this turns out to be a conference that can support you and your colleagues as much as you support the students you serve.
