Richmond 2015: Top 5 Reasons to Attend!

Don't Forget!  Less than one week left to take advantage of early-bird registration prices for the 30th Annual Region 2 NACADA Conference!
Still on the fence about attending?  Today I offer you my top five (5) reasons you should join us in Richmond next month:

5. To experience Richmond
Whether you are a “foodie” or a “sports guy/gal”, an art lover or a history buff, Richmond has you covered.  There are amazing things to see, do and eat in our river city.  Come early or stay a day later and check out museums, food, history and other exciting experiences.  Looking for something to do in #RVA once you are here?  Feel free to reach out to our hospitality chairs, Shajuana Isom-Payne and Kemper Steele for suggestions.  You can also stop me, Edna Renee, as I’m a Richmond native!

4. To interact with colleagues
My favorite part of any conference is meeting new people and talking with them.  I have gotten some great ideas in the “session after the session,” when people stand around and process what they have learned and what they are doing at their institutions.  I have also had some great experiences around food and exploring a new area with fellow conference attendees.  Interacting with colleagues is always the first step to collaboration, which can lead to innovation, research ideas, and wonderful stories.

3. To learn from presenters
We face many similar challenges at our respective institutions, but someone may have another way of addressing a certain issue.  There might be a brand new tool that can assist me as I help my students.  There may be another way to approach my first year experience course.  Especially in our busy days, when we don’t have time to read all of the journal articles we would like, conference presentations can introduce us to many new ideas.  Every conference I’ve attended has given some new idea, tool, or connection that I’ve been able to utilize to improve the advising and learning experience I give to my students.

2. To be inspired
The conference committee is very excited about this year’s conference because there are a lot of opportunities for inspiration.  We have presentations and posters that cover a variety of issues and (new) populations in interesting ways.  We have an amazing keynote experience at the luncheon.  We will be awarding our colleagues who have done fantastic things in the last year.  It is our hope that you’ll leave energized with lots of new ideas and tools in your toolkit.

1. To get involved
Whether this is your first or your 30th regional conference, it is an opportunity to become a bigger part of our #NACADAfamily.  You can volunteer.  You can talk with our steering committee to see for what future regional leadership roles you may want to run.  You can talk to your state representative about taking the conference experience to your state and planning a drive-in.  You can find out about national opportunities.  NACADA is us and the regional conference is a great way to take the first steps towards future involvement.

I hope one of these reasons inspired you (or inspired your boss to fund you).  If so, register hereThe early bird registration rate expires on February 26th!

On behalf of the conference planning committee, we sincerely look forward to seeing you in Richmond.  Keep checking this blog over the coming weeks for more information about the wonderful opportunities we have for in #RVA next month.
