Pre-Conference Session: Job Search Boot Camp

Hello job seekers! Job Search Boot Camp is a staple of Region 2’s conferences. We are proud to provide our members with in-depth insight on the job search process as well as the opportunity to network with other job seekers and experienced administrators. This is a fun and unique opportunity for those entering the job search to learn about the job search process from start to finish.

Your primary facilitator is Dr. Melinda Anderson, former Region 2 Chair and Director of University College at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Attendees will also hear from seasoned advising supervisors and current NACADA leaders who have served as hiring managers in both academic advising and in student affairs more broadly. We will talk candidly about the hiring process and how different institutions approach this process. We will review how to search for openings; give tips for resumes, cover letters, and references; engage in mock interviews with feedback; and even discuss the salary negotiation process. While you’re in the session, we will have our team of seasoned advising administrators review your resume and cover letter to provide immediate feedback. We learn a lot from one another and have a great time doing it.

This year, we are excited to also offer attendees the opportunity to talk with someone who attended Job Search Boot Camp in 2016. Now happily employed, he will share his successes and challenges of the first year as well as provide advice for attendees.

Those who have attended Job Search Boot Camp in previous years have said that this session introduced them to new people, taught them valuable skills, and gave them confidence in their job searches.

I hope to see you there!

Melinda Anderson
