Western PA Drive-in 2018

The following post was written by Carrie Egnosak, NACADA Western PA Drive-In Chair and Adviser, Academic and Career Planning Center, Penn State Behrend.

As I sit and write this blog post, the sun is streaming through my office windows, the birds are making nests in the trees just beyond and a few students are playing frisbee on the hill. After the snowiest Erie winter on record, I think spring has finally sprung!

Our careers and the academic paths of our students often face similar problems to those many of us faced this winter. Sometimes it can feel like those stormy days, long nights, and cold winds will never end.  The great news is, seasons change and so can we. As Mr. Fred Hodges, Jr., keynote speaker for the Western Pennsylvania Drive-In conference says, “we can be truly unconquerable…the only roadblock that stands in our way, is ourselves.”

Mr. Hodges earned his B.A. in Communications and M.A. in College Counseling from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He currently serves as the Director for the Office of Multicultural Student Services at Robert Morris University and defines himself as a product of adversity. He aims to uplift and support all those he comes in contact with and has a passion for motivating individuals to be the best they can be.  We are excited to welcome him back to Penn State Behrend for one of his most requested presentations, Me vs. Me. Me vs. Me focuses on the opportunities that we can develop when we choose to learn from the adversity in our lives. It is a boot camp for the elimination of negative thinking which can employ in both our lives and in helping our students.

We hope you will join Mr. Hodges and a variety of presenters from around the state at the Western Pennsylvania Drive-In, Cultivating the Vines of Success, Thursday, May 17th at Penn State Behrend in beautiful Erie, Pennsylvania. For a full list of presentations and to register, please visit our Eventbrite registration page.
