Dover Downs Reminders and Hospitality

Hello Region 2 Conference Attendees!

Your conference planning committee has arrived at and we are anxiously awaiting your arrival! Travel safe, and we have a few reminders as you arrive:
  • Hotel: Check-in is at 4:00.The hotel staff will allow you to store your bags free of charge outside of those times. 
  • Conference Registration Desk: Our Registration Desk, just to the right of the main lobby, will open on Wednesday, March 21 at 11:00am. The desk will be open until 6:00pm, when it will temporarily close for the Welcome Reception. The registration desk will open once again from 7pm-8pm. The Registration Desk will be open on Thursday from 7:00am until 5:00pm. 
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch for Thursday and breakfast on Friday are provided in the conference fee - please remember to wear your conference name-tag for entrance. Breakfast on Thursday and Brunch on Friday will be buffet. Thursday's Keynote lunch will be plated. 
  • Parking: Free self-parking is on site. Valet parking is also available for a rate of $5 per day. 
  • Dress for the Conference: The dress code for the conference is casual. Please dress comfortably. 
WEDNESDAY IS ROCK YOUR SOCKS DAY - We will help to raise awareness for Down Syndrome by participating in World Down Syndrome Day. Rock your favorite pair of funky socks.

THURSDAY IS SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY
- Show your school spirit and represent your institution.
Event Highlights 
  • Welcome Reception: We are SO excited about the Welcome Reception. It begins at 6:00 pm on Wednesday evening and features hors d'oeuvres, vegetables, drink tickets, and a NACADA horse in the evening harness race! Come out to cheer on our horse! 
  • Keynote Address: Our Keynote Address, by Dr. Bobbi Barends, will take place on Thursday at 12:15 pm. The plated lunch will immediately follow Dr. Barends' address. 
  • Charity: We are supporting the Seaford Community Food Pantry, which has supported Delawareans in need since the 1960s. Please bring non-perishable food donations for the pantry. Monetary donations raised through Penny Wars will also be donated to the Food Pantry. 
  • Website Information: The conference schedule is available online, as are travel instructions. Each attendee will receive a conference handbook with room assignments and conference area layout upon checking in Dover Downs. 
  • Raffles & State Baskets: We will have numerous items to giveaway, including but not limited to restaurant gift cards, NACADA bucks and other fabulous prizes. If you have something to donate for state baskets or raffles, please drop off at the Registration Desk upon arrival. 

Hospitality
  • Things to Do: Dover Downs has an on-site casino, several boutiques, a spa, and several restaurants. We will be hosting a Bingo Night & Table Game lessons (both free) on Wednesday night following the opening reception. 
  • Group Dinners: On Thursday evening, we will be hosting group dinners - sign up to host or attend! 
  • Hospitality Suite: Also on Thursday night, we invite all attendees to attend our Hospitality Suite to mix and mingle with other attendees (time and location will be announced at the conference). 
  • Sites Nearby: Dover and the surrounding area have lots to do: including nearby Dover Mall, outlets and shops in Rehoboth, DogFish Head Brewery in Milton, and much more. Stop by the hospitality table for suggestions of things to do!
  • Wellness: On Thursday morning, Region 2's Liz Sutton will be hosting yoga in the Ballroom at 6:00 AM (bring your own mat!). All levels are welcome. 

Recommended Packing List:
  • Comfortable, casual attire for 2-3 days. Be prepared to be either hot or cold inside meeting rooms. 
  • School spirit wear: t-shirts, jerseys, hats, etc. supporting your institution. 
  • Funky socks for Wednesday's Rock Your Socks day. 
  • Swimsuit (if you'd like to take advantage of the pool) and workout clothing (if you plan to attend the yoga session or hit the gym) 
  • Toiletries: toothpaste, toothbrush, brush/comb, lotion, razors, deodorant, medications, etc. 
  • Devices & chargers - laptop, tablet, chargers, and cables. 
  • Notepad & pen or pencil. 
  • Business cards. 
  • Presenters: your presentation materials, handouts, cables & connectors (if applicable), and posterboard (if applicable). 
  • Swag from your state or institution to donate for raffles & state baskets 
  • Non-perishable food donations for our charity.
